Simple Hamburgers

Plain Ol’ Hamburgers

recipe simple hamburgers Jun 14, 2021
I thought long and hard about posting this because the picture is neither exciting nor that appealing. But I think it makes a point beautifully: Food doesn’t have to be exciting and complicated and colorful and pretty. It’s just food y’all! HOWEVER, that being said, it should be nutritious and taste good. I remember years ago Dr. Phil said that food doesn’t always have to be a party in your mouth. However, THAT being said, my mouth was very happy with last night’s dinner. My husband had his burgers just plain on a plate smothered with those onions and mushrooms. I put my burgers, topped with the onions and mushrooms, in lettuce leaves. This dinner needed no sides — salad or otherwise. It was perfect just as is. We were going to add cheese and bacon but honestly, the plain burgers topped with the onions and mushrooms made a perfect combination.

In addition to convincing you that you don’t need to have a party in your mouth with every meal, I also want to take this recipe as a way to get on my soap box about KISS: KEEP IT SIMPLE SWEETHEART. You don’t even have to go out and buy a cookbook to make this dinner!

1 pound of ground meat of your choice. Last night we used 85% beef.

8 ounces of mushrooms, sliced or left as buttons if they are small

1 large sweet onion, sliced into “wings”

2 TBS butter mixed with 2 TBS olive or avocado oil

Salt and pepper

  1. Shape the meat into four patties.

  2. Salt and pepper both sides. (You can use onion or garlic salt instead of plain salt for a little more kick.)

  3. Slice onions and mushrooms. Put in the melted butter and oil. Add salt and pepper.

  4. Fry it all to your liking: rare to well-done on the burgers; just softened to crispy on the vegetables.
